At MTM’s New Jersey methadone clinics, staff and administrators remain steadfast in their commitment to patients’ well-being and care, but they know that no treatment can succeed without the patient’s full cooperation. That’s why we’ve outlined patients’ responsibilities. While undergoing a methadone treatment, patients are asked to be fully engaged in all its aspects; patient commitment and participation is central to the achievement of program goals. Moreover, if patients do not adhere to the established rules of our methadone centers, services will be ended.
To avoid termination, and to continue on the path to recovery, patients must exert themselves and give their all to complete prescribed treatments and to be active agents of improvement on their health. No heroin or Percocet treatment can be effective without an active patient.
Patient Responsibilities–What MTM Expects of You
- Take your life-saving treatment seriously. Keep your appointments with MTM staff. Attend maintenance/detox services daily.
- Be responsible. If you self-pay for treatment, you need to pay all weekly fees on your scheduled day as part of your treatment plan and goals.
- Treat yourself, your fellow patients, and MTM staff with respect. Verbal and physical abuse of other patients and staff members can result in immediate discharge.
- No illicit drugs or alcohol will be tolerated.
- No smoking.
- Shoes and shirts are required in the treatment center.
- No loitering at MTM or on the streets near the building or surrounding property.
If you don't follow program rules, you may be terminated from the program.
Your counselor will tell you if you are not following program rules and guidelines. You will receive a formal letter if you are terminated for any of the following reasons:
- You are a danger to yourself, other patients, or staff.
- You have not been in contact with the facility for three or more days.
- You repeatedly fail to work toward treatment goals.
If you are terminated, you will be given a 7–day to 21–day methadone detoxification, as determined by an MTM physician.
